United States: Hypertension defined as blood pressure above 140/90mmHg, touches approximately forty percent of adults in the United States. If not controlled, it can cause severe complications of the heart such as stroke and heart attack as indicated by the National Center for Health Statistics.

This indicates that hypertension is on the rise even in the young adult group and the children hence needs to be check and treated early.

According to the study, hypertension is basically a systolic blood pressure with almost 130 mm Hg or above or diastolic blood pressure of 80 mm Hg or above or already on medication for hypertension.

According to the report, while men had a higher likelihood of having very severe high blood pressure, they had a lower likelihood of realizing it than women did.

“Current hypertension rate among adults over 18 years was 47.7 percent, and the rate was higher in men, 50.8 percent, than women, 44.6 percent.”

The prevalence of hypertension increased or hiked as age is increased. The rate was 23.4% for the working youths 18.0-39.9 years of age, it was 52.5% for the adults, 40-59.9 years of age.

The study offered another staggering percentage: more than half of people 60 years and above suffer from hypertension.

From the survey, the proportion continually shows a higher ratio of hypertension than the “Healthy People 2030 target goal to lower blood pressure to 41.9% population or below. But the higher proportion of controlled hypertension is 20.7% compared with the Healthy People 2030 target goal of 18.9% or above (7).the goal of 18.9% or above according to healthy people 2030.
